Needle Felting - Making a small felt animal

In this course you will be introduced to the art of needle felting, you will learn to sculpt wool using some simple techniques and create a lovely little animal to take home.

Course aim

Learn the techniques of basic needle felting, learn how to sculpt wool into an animal shape and how to create character. The lesson will teach the basics but also inspire students to create more with the techniques they have learnt.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • learn some basic needle felting techniques
  • learn to build shape on a basic mould
  • learn to add definition and character to your shapes
  • learn how to apply colour to the felting
  • take a felted animal home

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • The techniques and skills gained in this course can be used for further craft and felt projects.

Enrolment Conditions

This course is funded by the West of England Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
