Come and be a part of the Bridging the Tamar Project at the new Visitor and Learning Centre at the Tamar Bridge. This two session course provides an opportunity to learn about the history of Tamar crossings at Saltash Passage. Use digital photography to capture images of the road and rail bridges plus views of the Tamar valley. Learn how to save and share your photographs with Information & Communication Technology. Be creative and use your imagination to take new photographs. Suitable for complete beginners and improvers - this is a practical course to help you have fun with your camera and share the results.

Course aim

To explore the history and engineering of the road and rail Tamar Crossings at Saltash using digital photography to capture creative images. The new visitor centre at Tamar Bridge will provide an inspiring base.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a digital camera to capture photographs in a variety of conditions
  • Transfer and save digital photographs to a computer
  • Save additional copies (backups) of photographs and be able to share photographs
  • Better understand the history of the Tamar Crossings at Saltash
  • Try out new ideas to capture interesting images of the Tamar Bridges

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • You are encouraged to bring your own Digital camera but you will be able to borrow a camera if required. You may bring your own portable (laptop) computer but a computer will be available if required.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
