An informative and interesting course that will, in a supportive environment, be both challenging and fun. It will enable you to identify any skills you need to develop and plan for learning. It will be useful to you if you are returning to learn after a break or if you are considering how to progress your learning journey. You will have an opportunity to see how education can be of benefit and help develop skills of value to you, employers and the community. You will meet tutors and students, and be able to share experiences and identify ways of overcoming barriers to learning. You will build confidence and develop your number skills to ensure you are better equipped to make decisions and support others to prepare yourself for healthier and better future.

Course aim

This course is designed to help adults identify skills and knowledge to investigate learning opportunities while developing number skills and opportunities for employment and community.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Recognise common concerns and how to overcome them
  • Progress with communication and literacy skills
  • Identify and make use of digital skills
  • Identify learning opportunities and available next steps

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

This course is funded by the West of England Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
