Working with an enthusiastic tutor, this course is approachable for both beginners and more established painters. Working from life you will examine, draw and paint a selection of Autumn produce in all its rich variety learning about the versatility and beauty of using watercolour paints.

Course aim

A botanical painting course working from observed drawings in watercolour, using seasonal fruit, vegetables and plants to produce rich and elegant paintings and learn more about the natural world.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • An interest and curiosity about the natural world.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • produce an accurate drawing of a natural object.
  • compose a beautiful painting.
  • be confident with watercolour paint.
  • To exchange ideas as part of a committed and enthusiastic group.
  • explore views on painters and paintings.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • The tutor will contact you before the start of the course to discuss suitable materials.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Show your paintings in exhibitions.
