Health and wellbeing benefits include improved balance, coordination and mobility as well as relieving stress and lifting your mood. The smooth and gentle movements energise the body without putting undue stress on joints or muscles.

Course aim

To improve fitness and wellbeing through the practice of Yang style Tai Chi and Health Qigong.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • BEGINNERS Demonstrate 3 Tai Chi Stances- Bow stance, T Step and Empty stance IMPROVERS Demonstrate flow of movements when performing Tai Chi
  • BEGINNERS Demonstrate coordination of arms and legs when performing routines IMPROVERS Demonstrate coordination of movements and smooth transitions when performing routines
  • BEGINNERS Perform Health Qigong routines using correct postures IMPROVERS Perform Health Qigong routines using correct techniques
  • BEGINNERS Identify Dan Dien and Ba Hui points IMPROVERS Identify Dan Dien, Ba Hui and Laogong points

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • Tutor observation and feedback. Practise in small groups and student feedback.

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing and flat comfortable shoes. You may wish to bring a drink of water with you.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

  • Continue to develop practice and learn new routines.
