We will look at drawings by artists such as Picasso, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and other artists to inform your own practice. Please bring a sketch book and HB - 2B pencils.

Course aim

Exploring drawing techniques and elements such as line and tone from observation of natural forms. To look at drawings by artists such as Picasso, Rembrandt, Van Gogh to inform your own practice. Bring a sketch book and HB - 2B pencils.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To know how to compose and accurately map out drawings.
  • To understand how to use tone and shading to create forms.
  • To appreciate and analyse artists' work and their intentions.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to bring a sketchbook and HB - 2B pencils.
