Contemporary Art - Part Two

Following on from from Contemporary Art Part 1 - Film and Performance Art, we look at what defines two additional genres of new media, photography and digital art. We will look at the history and development of both medias looking at various artists working in these two media including Cindy Sherman, Sarah Lucas and Don McCullin.

Course aim

To give an introduction to new media in contemporary fine art practice, looking specifically at photography and digital art.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List and briefly describe the work of at least three contemporary artists working in photography.
  • List and briefly describe the work of at least three contemporary artists working in digital art.
  • Identify and list at least three areas of interest each artist is looking at within their work.
  • List at least three comments the artists are making within their work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
