Dance Fitness

Seated or standing lets enjoy a fun, relaxed dance workout to music, improving both our mental and physical fitness levels. Let's start our day feeling energised, motivated and refreshed after learning a few basic dance moves! We will also be looking at some of the most influential choreographers in Dance, their various styles, cultures, and how they communicate stories and their messages through Dance.

Course aim

In relaxed weekly sessions let's dance our way to a fitter, healthier you. Exercising to music will energise and motivate. Linking dance steps is great brain training and a lot of fun too! So let's improve our mental and physical health together.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to link two or more new Dance moves.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recall and practise two or more Dance moves without direction.
  • Identify examples of improved energy levels and well being post exercise - describe 2 examples.
  • Demonstrate improved confidence to the tutor by trying a new dance move.
  • Name one or more influential choreographers.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Own research into the session's weekly topics is encouraged and welcomed.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A 'Student Learning Record' will be filled in by both Tutor and Student.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Own research into the session's weekly topics is encouraged and welcomed.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
