Health and Wellbeing for the MS Society

This course is for anyone who has MS and could benefit from our health and well-being program. We will provide learners with topical skills and information to use in their daily lives. We will cover a range of areas including Qigongs, Yoga, Pilates, healthy eating and meditation. Every week we will also do a range of chair based gentle exercises to help improve circulation, flexibility and movement, that includes a segment of Tai Chi and we will end with a relaxation exercise.

Course aim

To provide a weekly health and well-being course for people who have MS; that includes gentle, chair based exercise, with weights, bands and balls, Tai Chi, relaxation and segments on Qigongs, Yoga and healthy eating.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Briefly explain what Reflexology is.
  • Perform four seated Yoga and Pilates moves.
  • Explain the new labelling system on food and drink.
  • Demonstrate Tai Chi's Waving Hands in the Clouds Yang and Sun Style seated.
  • Demonstrate four new gentle, chair based exercises that can help improve circulation, flexibility and movement.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • I will give verbal feedback throughout the course, which will include praise and parts to work on.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please wear comfortable clothes you are happy to exercise in and trainers.
