Yoga for Calm and relaxation

This course will give you an opportunity to discover techniques and tips for use in your everyday life - movement (modified), meditate, relax and support a calmer mind/life. Focus on conscious breathing, postures(modified) and meditations that help to improve resilience, flexibility and the nervous system. Reconnect with body, mind and consciousness - take some time to simply be you.

Course aim

To develop wellbeing through an awareness of, and participation in: yogic exercise (modified to the individual), meditation, relaxation and discussions around the nervous system.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • State x types of pranayam and their specific purposes
  • Name an/ x asana(s) that support(s) the nervous system
  • Participate in a range of Kriya and Meditation

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Observation of participation in Pranayam, Kriya and Meditation

What else do I need to know?

  • You may wish to bring a blanket/large bath towel/travel rug to keep yourself warm during relaxation and wear appropriate loose fitting comfortable clothes (layers, so you can add/remove as necessary). Bring a bottle/flask of water to stay hydrated.
