Make lovely Kusadama paper flowers using the time old tradition of Origami. Learn a short history of origami, the techniques and materials needed to make these very effective paper flowers.No prior experience necessary just a willingness to have a go and have fun.

Course aim

During this course you will learn how to make lovely, effective Kusadama paper flowers using the time old Oriental tradition of Origami.

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn about the origins of Origami, where it began and a brief look at Origami today.
  • Identify what materials you'll need to make these lovely flowers such as the best paper and adhesive and how to construct your Kusadama paper flower.
  • An understanding of how to use GOOGLE and Pinterest. How to download it onto your phones or pc's and how to search and save areas of ineterest and how to build up your own collection of interesting boards.
  • Learn how to create your own patterned paper to make a truly unique flower.
  • You will complete two or three Kusadama paper flowers of differing sizes using different papers to make a small, lovely and effective bouquet.,

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Your tutor will bring along to the group a selection of books to use during the session for ideas and some finished flowers as examples to give you an idea of the different papers to use.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • Your tutor will be happy to support you through this course to help you ahieve your desired effect/goal. To discuss any ideas or problems that you may have.

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Please gather a selection of THIN papers no smaller than three inches square. These can be magazine pages, newspaper, book and text pages or pre patterned and decorated papers. You will need enough paper for two or three flowers. Each flower has six to eight petals/pieces.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Look at GOOGLE or PINTEREST for images so that ou have an idea what your flowers will look like.
