This course is for anyone who is lacking in confidence about their abilities and the skills and qualities they have to offer in the workplace. The course covers transferable skills, how to find and apply for jobs, tips on how to write a CV and covering letter & how to give a good impression at Interviews.
Course aim
To help students to identify their transferable skills and the things to consider when deciding what jobs to apply for.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify at least two transferable skills & two areas for development.
- Recognise two important things to consider when looking for a job.
- Match skills to job descriptions.
- Complete a CV, application form and covering Letter
- List six ways to prepare for an interview
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- You may want to bring a notepad and pen for taking notes Tutors will suggest sources of additional information where relevant
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading or pre course work is required
What can I do next?
- Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
- Progress to another WEA taster course or a longer course in a related subject such as stress management. There may also be possibilities for accredited employability based courses
