This course will extend students' language skills and develop their confidence. There will be an introduction to employment related topics such as completing application forms with a focus on relevant vocabulary. We will practice short conversations, and listening for information. This course is for people taking their first steps towards employment.
Course aim
This course will develop key skills to improve employment prospects (paid or voluntary) with a focus on developing language skills and building confidence.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Ask and answer 5-10 questions about yourself.
- Complete the personal details section on a form (application form/library).
- Talk about your daily routines, habits and activities.
- Identify 2-5 common illnesses and role-play a scenario.
- Use a computer to word process 3-5 personal details on a CV.
How will I be taught?
- Most of your learning will take place in your class, but one or two sessions will be online using WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, working by yourself or engaging with other students. If you want to understand more about our digital learning platform please visit: http://bit.ly/WEAonline
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
- Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- All materials will be provided
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading or pre course work is required
- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
