Healthy Eating and Cooking for Families is a course suitable for everyone from those that have never chopped a vegetable to those looking at adding new recipes to their menus. We look at how we can utilise frozen products such as vegetables (to prevent wastage) to looking at meals that double up easily providing you with lunches the next day. We look at how herbs and spices can help add a spoonful of flavour to meals that your family will enjoy.

Course aim

Heathy cooking for families looks at how we eat and what changes we can make to not just be healthy (which is very important) but how we can save money and time creating dishes from basic ingredients.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learners will understand portion measurements
  • Learners will learn at least 2 recipes that create further meals from the leftovers (for example the pasta sauce then goes on to create a soup).
  • Learn how spices work and add flavour
  • Learn how to reduce kitchen wastage
  • How to meal plan

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
