Art for All

Each session will have a theme to act as a starting point. Some sessions will introduce and be inspired by featured artists. There will be individual instruction for you when needed on composition, the use of colour, perspective etc. If students have their own idea /starting point this will be encouraged too. You will learn how to use different art materials to good effect, and you will be encouraged to display and discuss your work at the end of each session.

Course aim

This course will provide you with opportunities to explore a variety of art materials e.g. acrylic paint, watercolours, pastels, pencils, charcoal etc. and enable you to develop your own artistic style, in a relaxed, non judgmental setting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work with several different art materials.
  • Display and discuss my artwork with the tutor and peers.
  • Demonstrate an art technique eg. drawing, soft pastels, collage etc.
  • Feel more confident and pleased about artwork produced.
  • Develop new skills.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • students will be encouraged to do artwork between sessions collate their own research on featured artists.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • Wear an apron or old shirt to protect clothing.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • An interest/love of Art.

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
