This course will teach you how to make healthy food choices with the aim to improve your health. We will look at the main food groups and how to plan meals which are healthy. We will also look at some of the current food topics such as lowering our sugar/salt intake and portion control. We will also do some small cookery projects using healthy choices. We will also be covering health and safety in the kitchen and understanding of basic food hygiene.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify the 5 main food groups e.g. proteins, carbohydrates etc
- Give two examples of changes that could be made for a more healthy diet
- Give 2 examples of what a portion of particular foods look like
- identify 2 examples of safe practice in the kitchen.
How will I be taught?
- Most of your learning will take place in your class, but one or two sessions will be online using WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas, working by yourself or engaging with other students. If you want to understand more about our digital learning platform please visit: http://bit.ly/WEAonline
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- a little practical cookery
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
