Introduction to Tai Chi

This health and well-being course will provide learners with knowledge about how Tai Chi can help your general health, body strength, flexibility and stress levels. In a regular week we will have an introduction, warm ups, Qigong's, then we will learn a new move and practice what we have already covered, then we will have cool downs. I will cover the course information about Tai Chi and Qigongs mostly while we are active. I will tailor the course to suit the needs of the group as much as possible.

Course aim

To provide a weekly health and well-being course that teaches an introduction to Sun Style Tai Chi set. We will also look briefly into how Tai Chi can help your mental and physical health.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain what Tai Chi is and briefly explain its benefits.
  • Explain what Qigong's are and perform three.
  • Perform four warm up Tai Chi exercises.
  • Demonstrate three Tai Chi moves.
  • Demonstrate the Tai Chi for Arthritis set.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • I will give verbal feedback through out the course, which will include praise and parts to work on, as we learn our Tai Chi set.

What else do I need to know?

  • Please wear comfortable clothes you are happy to exercise in and trainers.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
