Health and Wellbeing for the MS Society

This course is for anyone who has MS and could benefit from our health and well-being program. We will provide learners with topical skills and information to use in their daily lives. We will cover a range of areas including Qigongs, Yoga, memory improvement, and meditation. Every week we will also do a range of chair based gentle exercises to help improve circulation, flexibility and movement, that includes a segment of Tai Chi and we will end with a relaxation exercise.

Course aim

To provide a weekly health and well-being course for people who have MS, that includes gentle, chair based exercise, Tai Chi, relaxation and segments on Qigongs, Yoga and Memory.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform four seated Yoga moves.
  • Complete some memory exercises.
  • Demonstrate four Qigong's and explain why they can help us.
  • Demonstrate the moves from the Tai Chi set we will learn.
  • Demonstrate four new gentle, chair based exercises that can help improve circulation, flexibility and movement.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Please wear comfortable clothes you are happy to exercise in.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
