Learn simple ways to draw beautiful flowers, leaves and seed heads, (some realistic and some imaginary), and practise embellishing them with watercolour, coloured pencils, collage and more! Ideal for beginners, or those who want to be inspired by new art techniques. We will practise a variety of doodle patterns and look at how they can be used to decorate cards, gift tags or frame them to display on your walls - yes they will be that good! This is a very popular art form at the moment and has the added benefit of being relaxing and stress free. Join this friendly, creative session, no experience necessary just have a go and have fun.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the art of creating flower doodles. This art form is very calming and can be learned by anyone who is willing to have a go and follow the instructions.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas.   • This is a live lecture delivered by a subject specialist in an online webinar video learning platform. You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.   • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw at least three flower doodles.
  • Draw at least three other designs such as leaves, seedheads, wreath/garland or border pattern.
  • Choose and use an appropriate medium to add colour to designs.
  • Use floral designs to decorate a card, gift tag, bookmark or picture.
  • Have experienced how doodling can be a calming activity to help you unwind.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will be able to join in and have a go alongside the tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • It is possible to do this course with just paper and a pen, but I will show you some techniques using watercolour, felt pens, coloured pencils and coloured paper(magazines/old paperbacks), so if you have any of these you will be able to use them. We will discuss materials during the first session.
