We will look at various complementary therapies and techniques that will include massage, facial techniques, exfoliation, meditation, and how essential oils to help your well being. This will be an interactive course, with practical aspects to give you skills you can use at home. This is a non-accredited course and does not allow you to work in the complementary therapy industry,

Course aim

Using complementary therapies for wellbeing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe what complementary therapy is.
  • Perform a short self-massage routine to reduce stress and tension
  • Perform a short mini facial, including cleanse, tone, exfoliate and massage
  • Discuss the benefits of meditation
  • Know how to diffuse oils to help with wellbeing

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • You will be asked to participate in a practical work session and be observed to help you be able to carry out the therapies safely at home

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • If you use a specific brand of skincare at home which is good for your skin, you may wish to bring your own products to class. You will be the only person using your own products, these will not be shared with the class. Tissues, cotton pads, etc will be provided.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre-course work is required, however, you may wish to observe the range of products available in retail outlets.

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
