A course open to all levels from beginners to more experienced students.

Course aim

The Course is for beginners and experienced students to develop their interest in art - with practical guided sessions in observation, drawing and painting

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students do not need qualifications to join and enjoy the course -just an interest and curiosity in art, art materials and techniques

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • - work on developing a good balanced lay out in a figure painting for a personally pleasing composition
  • - develop skills using a palette knife to colour up the figure painting using acrylic, gouache or oil paints
  • - combine colours in different ways with pastel crayons
  • - explore the histories and qualities of abstract art to paint an original abstract in pastel
  • - work in ink for mono chrome pictures of musicians using dip in pen and brush and water

How will I be taught?

  • Students will follow the course work at their own pace and can follow their own interests in art with tutor support and bring work from home to discuss

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
