Another opportunity to sing-along to some of the favourite numbers from: Les Miserables, Mama Mia, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story,Oklahoma, South Pacific and others. This workshop is aimed at immersion and enjoyment of the music of some of the great contemporary stage shows and movies. Workshops will focus on a small selection shows and their most popular songs and choruses. There will be a little learning of vocal technique in order to gain as much individual pleasure and learning as possible from a group singing session.

Course aim

A workshop aimed at singing songs and choruses from some of the great Broadway and West End stage shows and movies. A chance to learn about your own voice and just enjoy singing as part of a group.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand my own vocal ability.
  • Share in the group dynamic, listening and reacting to the performance of others around me.
  • Understand and appreciate the structure in the combining of words and music.
  • Enjoy singing with greater confidence

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • The addition materials are a notebook, pen and pencil.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Join a choir or singing/musical group.
