Exploring Watercolours and Other Media

This will be your personal painting journey. It's an exploration of traditional and/or creative Watercolour Painting techniques. Whether you're a complete beginner or you already have a knowledge of painting, this course will allow you to examine your existing painting strengths and weaknesses, your methods and approaches and look for a way of developing or exploring new ones. You might try a new style, be bold and contemporary or practice a more detailed technical approach. You can mix your Watercolour with other media or try an another medium if you wish. It's all about your development and you as an individual Artist with the support if your tutor who works as a Professional Artist also. Learning will be fun and informative with lots of tutor demonstrations and group interactions and exercises. You will research, (through Internet and galleries) different art styles to help motivate and inspire your changes.

Course aim

This course is for beginners and more experienced painters alike. There will be an element of independent learning practices as well as tutor guided learning and demonstrations. A range of mediums may be used to develop your practice.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand the and have greater confidence in Watercolour painting
  • become aware of differing styles and become more open minded about how your approach your painting
  • you will build up a portfolio of painting upon which to reflect and move froward from
  • you will be able to try a new medium under the guidance of your artist tutor
  • you will complete artworks which are self motivated and created indepentantly

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • We use a class group "Whats app" mobile app to share pictures resources and notes. This is optional but beneficial if you use it. Whats App is free to use.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • It is beneficial to have your own equipment.Some tools can be provided such as brushes and palettes. Consumables such as paper can be bought at a small cost from the Tutor. £1-2 per session depending on materials. If you need financial assistance for materials please speak to the WEA .

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • It may be helpful to install Whats App on your mobile device. ( optional but useful) Assistance can be given with the set up in class. An equipment list will be given by the tutor and help rescue the right tools etc.

  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2019
