Sing Swing Workshop

Each workshop will focus on a selection of four or five popular songs from the swing era. There will be a little learning of vocal technique in order to gain as much individual pleasure and learning as possible from a group sing-along.

Course aim

A chance to explore the music that defined our youth. The popular songs and the ballads that accompanied and very often defined adolescence and maturity.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand my vocal range and vocal capabilities.
  • Feel more confident when singing.
  • Listen to my fellow singers and tune to the group vocal dynamic.
  • Understand how popular songs are structured and constructed.
  • A understanding and greater enjoyment of words, poetry and songwriting.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A pencil and a notebook should come in handy.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Provide the confidence to join a choir or singing group.
