Christmas Card Painting Workshop

Your tutor will demonstrate a range of Watercolour painting techniques that you could use to design and paint your own Christmas /Winter related painting. Then create your own design from a choice of provided images and reference ideas, or use your own ideas or inspiration to design and paint your painting. A stage by stage painting option is also available for those who would prefer more guidance or are complete beginners. This workshop will be fun, informative with a festive theme. Festive snacks are included. Cards are printed by a local professional printer and are an additional charge to the workshop fee with a minimum order of 10 from 65p per card plus £3.00 postage or collection is available. Cards take 2-3 weeks. Payment needs to be made at the time of order. Cash in an envelope with your contact details for the Printer.

Course aim

Create a watercolour painting with a Christmas / Winter theme. Then have the option of having your artwork printed into personal Christmas Cards for a small extra charge. Printing is optional, you're welcome to come for the painting workshop only.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • learn to paint a variety of simple WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES
  • Design and produce a painting which has a Christmas or Winter Theme
  • You will engage in a fun and social event with like minded people with the same goal.
  • you will have the option to have your painting printed into cards in time for Christmas.
  • This painting activity is great introduction to painting and will hopefully leave you inspired to do more or take up creative course

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Lots of demonstrations and guidance will be given and you will be given time to practice before undertaking your design. Sometimes the simplest images like a Snowman or Tree works well as a card.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • The tutor will be able to support and guide in a step by step manner if needed. This is a beginner level activity with the option for more experienced painters to work independently.

What else do I need to know?

  • Your own materials can be useful but not essential. Two sheets of Practice Watercolour Paper and Paints are included. Brushes can be provided for use in class. Additional Watercolour paper is available @ 50p per sheet of paper.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • You are welcome to bring your own ideas for designs etc. if you prefer. Examples of cards done in previous workshops can be seem on the tutor website. www.carolsart.co.uk
