This is a conversational Spanish course aimed at giving learners the confidence to use Spanish whilst travelling in Spanish speaking countries. It will focus on starter words and sentences. It is not too difficult - we focus on present tense.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Increased confidence in speaking Spanish. This is a major barrier in learning another language. They have different pronunciations of the alphabet so once we learn that your ability to speak will increase.

  • Count up to 20. Starting at 1 - 10 and then going on to 20, once you grasp this the other numbers will fall into place
  • Learn how to ask for food and drinks. We will introduce you to the usual items on a Spanish menu, names of tapas and drinks

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Handouts, verbal practice, simple role play to practice and confirm learning.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • All questions will be answered. Constructive feedback will be given. We are not expecting anyone to be fluent after 5 sessions, but you should see a great improvement and feel more confident to practice your Spanish when on holiday.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Bring an open mind, a willingness to learn, an interest in Spanish (or Spain), a Spanish dictionary, a pen and paper.
