Course aim

This qualification is designed for parents or workers caring for children in the absence of their parents. This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider.
  • Assess an emergency situation safely.
  • Provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction.
  • Provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • The course is active and practical therefore candidates will need to kneel and lie down to act as casualties for each other. Appropriate clothing should be worn Photgraphic ID is needed if a certificate is required
