Emergency First Aid

Employers have to risk assess their workplace first aid requirements and the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is one of the statutory qualifications for this purpose. Topics include; roles & responsibilities, assessing incidents, dealing with collapse (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, seizures, minor workplace incidents and using a first aid kit. This qualification is designed to provide essential life saving skills.

Course aim

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
  • Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
  • Provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • The course is active and practical therefore candidates will need to kneel and lie down to act as casualties for each other. Appropriate clothing should be worn Photographic ID is required and if not provided there may be a delay in certification
