An introduction to skin care and facials. The course will look at the different skin types and how to look after them effectively. There will be an element of practical work, when you learn how to creawte a mask out of natural products and use it as part of a facial routine. There will also be the opportunity to practise a facial within the classroom. To support the practical work we will look at the structure and function of the skin and other theory relating to skin care

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the structure and function of the skin
  • Describe the various skin types
  • Select the correct skin care product for the skin type
  • Perform a mini facial on myself

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will practice skin care on your own face in the classrrom

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of basic skin care products will be available, but depending on your skin type/issues etc you may like to bring your own skin care products for your own personal uses.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • You may wish to attend a local college to gain a certificate in beauty therapy to enable you to work in industry
