We will begin with the basics and progress to more advanced techniques, however full support will be given to help you achieve.PThere are numerous craft jobs or self-employed opportunities where you can make use of your new creative skills

Additional information about this course

This course is funded by Tees Valley Combined Authority. To enrol on this course you will need to attend the Tees Valley Women’s Centre enrolment day on 6th September. At the centre you will be able to enrol on your course by phone or the internet. If you are unable to attend the enrolment day you must contact Donna Middleton 01642 296166, after the 6th September, who will provide you with a pin number which will enable you to enrol if there are places available.

Course aim

This is a class for mixed ability students who would like to learn the techniques of card making and crafts in a relaxed atmosphere.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce festive bunting to use as a decoration.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of recycling and upcycling to produce beautiful Christmas cards.
  • Become aware of digital resources that can be used in crafting.
  • Continue to progress with parchment craft by learning and practising white work.
  • Make a beaded Christmas decoration, using a free pattern downloaded from the web.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • All activities will take place in the classroom however the digital learning platform Canvas will be available to back up learning should the Student choose to use it.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
  • Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
  • You will be able to keep a digital portfolio of your work on WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

  • You will have access to course resources and links to wider learning through the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas: http://bit.ly/WEAonline
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
