Introduction to Nail Technology

This course will help you learn and understand the basic skills needed for nail treatments, including manicure and nail art treatments. You will learn the products needed and techniques used to achieve various desired effects. Learning will involve group activities and practicing treatments on each other. These skills can be used to become self-employed or gain employment as a nail technician.

Additional information about this course

This course is funded by Tees Valley Combined Authority. To enrol on this course you will need to attend the Tees Valley Women’s Centre enrolment day on 6th September. At the centre you will be able to enrol on your course by phone or the internet. If you are unable to attend the enrolment day you must contact Donna Middleton 01642 296166, after the 6th September, who will provide you with a pin number which will enable you to enrol if there are places available.

Course aim

An introduction to the nail industry and an insight into the Level 2 VTCT accredited Nail Technology qualification

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform a basic manicure treatment for someone.
  • Create various nail art techniques.
  • Apply a dark polish to the natural nails correctly.
  • Apply a French polish to the natural nails correctly.
  • Gain confidence and skills to work on other peoples natural nails

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Working on each others natural nails to practice treatments

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • A4 ring bonder folder, pen and note paper Please do not wear any form of artifical nails. You will be asked to remove them as, all learning taking place will be practicing on the natural nails

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
