Bridges to Learning Minute Taking

This workshop is for experienced and relatively new minute takers. It will take learners through a variety of exercises to help them become more confident in their role as minute takers. We will look at - why minutes are important - different styles of minutes - preparing for the meeting - taking notes / minutes - what to do after the meeting - how to overcome problems that may arise

Course aim

To provide an introduction to minute taking and provide learners with an opportunity to practice minute taking.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify different styles of minutes
  • Recognise the importance of good preparation and planning before meetings
  • Become more confident in taking minutes through practice
  • Understand the role of the minute taker after the meeting has taken place

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
