Improve your drawing, learn about composition, experience a world of watercolour techniques: washes, wet into wet, layering , stippling, how to mask out, how to mix colours and how to create forms and shapes with tone. You’ll paint landscapes, seascapes, still life, floral forms and figures and a lot more. All you need is a pencil, a set of watercolours, some brushes and watercolour paper. You’ll be given all the information you need on the best materials for the course. It couldn’t be simpler and you’ll have a range of techniques which will enable you to make your very own watercolour paintings.

Course aim

Come and join this watercolour course and learn how to create lovely watercolour paintings. Suitable for complete beginners or improvers

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand composition and Improve drawing skills
  • experiment with techniques such as washes and wet into wet.
  • experiment with layering, stippling and masking
  • be confident with mixing colours
  • use tone to create form and shape

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • All you need is a pencil, a set of watercolours, some brushes and watercolour paper

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
