Recycled Crafts

You will learn a range of crafts to upcycle and repurpose various materials and items. Learn how to re-use newspapers to make beautiful functional bowls and vases. You will learn some sewing skills to transform old jeans into a container and add your own flower embellishments. Learn about decoupage and how to transform and revitalise everyday household items such as old plant pots and photo frames into new creations using old magazines and wrapping paper . Upcycle yarn into beautiful crocheted items and explore mosaic techniques using recycled china and pottery.

Course aim

Recycling is to conserve energy and help the environment. Make from scratch, remodel and repurpose. This fun enjoyable course will teach you a range of craft skills

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make vessels from scratch using old newspaper
  • transform items using mosaic techniques
  • Upcycle plantpots, photo frames using paint and cutout paper embellishments
  • upcycle yarn using crochet techniques

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Some basic materials will be provided but it would be useful for you to bring things to class that you would like to upcycle and repurpose

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
