Russian history is like a matryoshka doll (also known as a Russian nesting doll.) The history of Russia displays consistent and recurrent themes. The course will consist of a chronological account of the history of Russia and the USSR up to the Russia of Vladimir Putin. Interspersed within this will be frequent consideration of depictions of Russian history eg. photographs, paintings, films, newsreels. The methods employed will include segmented powerpoint presentations and discussion of the themes identified, as well as the usual class interaction.

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
