Learners will achieve a basic understanding of how the Internet works, how to create an E-mail account and to write messages to friends and family. They will be able to put their newly discovered skills into practice. Learners will also be supported to converse over Skype.
Course aim
During this course learners will develop and enhance their skills in the Internet, Email and Microsoft Word. They will work at their own pace, with support and guidance throughout the course.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Use Solitaire to refresh/ improve mouse co-ordination (This acts as an Initial Assessment)
- Open/Close an Internet Browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer)
- ‘Surf the Net' safely and adhering to WEA computer policies.
- Send and receive E-mails
- Carry out Skype sessions with interactive games such as Guess Who? and Play Your Cards Right
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

- Writing pad & pen for note taking
