In a period of just over two weeks in May 1536 Anne Boleyn was arrested, tried for adultery, incest and treason, found guilty, and beheaded. Few historians believe that she was guilty, but some have argued that her behaviour contributed to her death. But was she the victim of a conspiracy, and, if so, who were the conspirators?

Course aim

In a period of just over two weeks in May 1536, Anne Boleyn was arrested, tried for adultery, incest and treason, found guilty, and beheaded. Few historians believe that she was guilty. How far did her behaviour contribute to her death?

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • understand the main events of the life of Anne Boleyn
  • assess the reasons for her fall and death
  • place Anne in the context of the religious and political developments of the reign of Henry VIII.

How will I be taught?

  • This will be a two-hour PowerPoint presentation.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Because this is simply a two-hour lecture, the opportunities for detailed feedback will inevitably be limited.

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
