A lively interactive session using the space at the Royal Festival Hall to inspire us and for people who want to develop their skills as a novelist, poet , short-story writer or dramatist. The tutor is a published playwright with worked performed in many countries. The key to this short course is that writing `should be for pleasure`.An exercise will be set to free the creative imagination. All students will have the opportunity to share with everyone their thoughts and goals as a writer. The course should stimulate students to continue writing or join other writing groups. The meeting point is outside the Poetry Library at the Royal Festival Hall.

Course aim

We all have a story to tell . A fun way to discover your hidden talents as a story-teller, novelist or poet.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • be stimulated to write on my own
  • gain an interest in other writers
  • feel more confident about my own writing
  • to continue my development as a creative writer

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Work-shop style course, using the space at the Royal Festival Hall to inspire us, students will interact with each other and the tutor.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • just pen and paper

This course is funded by the Greater London Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
