All people, all ages, will experience stress. It is when stress becomes the main feeling and pressure in everyday life that it can become a problem. This course will explore how to reduce stress in yourself, which would help you to understand how to reduce stress in your children.

Course aim

The purpose of this course is to explore how to help children cope with stress by considering how parents cope with stress.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand some of the causes of stress in both adults and children
  • Begin to be able to help both yourself and your children cope with stress feelings
  • Discuss with your children how both you and they want to be treated by each other
  • Apply some of the principles of emotional health and intelligence for both yourself and your children

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • A folder to keep your work in and pen and paper to record work and thoughts.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
