This course offers an opportunity to create and learn about the fascinating traditional art of mosaic-making. You will learn techniques such as laying and cutting tiles, using specific tools and transferring images to board. You will also be able to experiment with different tile medium to suit your personal style and interest. By the end of the course you will have completed and grouted an individual piece to take home.

Course aim
This course provides an introduction to mosaic making, now a popular form of therapeutic and mindful creative practice. By applying specific techniques from designing to grouting, you will be able to create a unique artwork to take home.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Apply basic mosaic techniques to create a personal design
- Use specific cutting tools for Mosaic making and have some understanding about substrates (Surfaces) and adhesives
- Complete a personal design using basic knowledge of colour theory and tile layout (andamento)
- Gain awareness of the therapeutic benefits of creative activity using mosaic medium
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed
- All materials will be provided
- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
- A drawing or photograph of a design you may want to create or be inspired by.
