Textiles for the Outpost shop - 'Developing Ideas for an Exhibition'

The course will expand knowledge of simple and experimental textile and printing techniques. Students will produce designs and samples on an agreed theme. These will then be further developed to produce several finished pieces of artwork. students will be encouraged to reach professional standards and to exhibit the work at the Outpost gallery next term.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to produce a piece of textiles in students own choice of materials and techniques, that will be exhibited in the Outpost shop and gallery.

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce designs for finished artwork
  • Experiment and explore self selected techniques
  • Make a finished piece of work for exhibition
  • Maintain a professional standard in the work produced.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
