Emotional Health Mentoring in Schools

This taster session will help students understand the key skills and qualities for effective emotional health mentoring, and the benefits of such mentoring for children in school, but also for children at home. Hopefully students will then consider enrolling on the longer course to follow.

Course aim

To introduce students to the thinking and practice of emotional health mentoring in schools.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify two essential skills and two essential qualities for effective mentoring.
  • Describe two benefits of engaging in mentoring.
  • Decide if emotional health mentoring is something I want to pursue

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • Please bring a pen and some paper as you may wish to make some notes.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
