This course will concentrate mainly on speaking and listening with reading and writing also included. At the end of the course you will be able to: ask for and give information and directions; You will learn to read a short text and write a short narrative about yourself; You will learn some personal key words e.g name, address, country of origin, you will be able to talk about likes and dislikes and ask for directions and follow directions. Some formal and informal conversation will be practiced.

Course aim

The course will give you the skills to be able to be more engaged with your community and some basic English skills that will help with looking for a job or volunteering for to help in the community.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • learn some personal key words e.g. name, address country of origin
  • ask for personal details and give personal details
  • ask for directions and give directions
  • follow instructions
  • follow a simple discussion on a familiar topic

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
