The course will highlight the philanthropic actions of the 'Rescuers' who were non Jewish people during the Second World War who saved thousands of Jews from the horrors of the Holocaust. There will also be a focus on the 'Rescued' and how their experiences during the War impacted on their lives and shaped their future

Course aim

The course will explore the motivations of non-jewish humanitarians who 'Rescued' Jews in the Second World War and also focus on some of those rescued by their actions and how their lives changed during and after the war

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • To understand the motivations behind the philanthropic actions of those 'Rescuers' who saved thousands of Jews in WW2
  • To understand the historical context in which these philanthropic actions took place
  • To understand how the actions of these 'Rescuers' affected the lives of Jews that were saved from the Holocaust
  • To understand the impact and legacy of these humanitarian actions

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
