This course for beginners who wants to learn basic sewing techniques , body measurements, making a garment of your choice including sleeves, zips, facing neckline , reading commercial patterns, prepare fabrics for cutting . you will make the most out of your sewing machien, over lock using them for hemming, stitching elastics, frilling, piping and much more of decorative sewing techniques..

Course aim

This course for those who wants to make cloths that fit, learning the basic sewing skills and progress to make a garment of your choice. including inserting a zip, sleeve button hole, facing a neckline.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Setup sewing machien, threading, use all the function to produce professional sewing, using the overlock machien and industrial steam iron ,making samples of diffrent seams.
  • learning diffrent seams and how to use them. Making diffrent neck , sleeves,darts,hems samples. organise your folder for future reference.
  • Take accurate body measurments, how to read and use commercial patterns,
  • you will learn about designs, how to choose the perfect pattern, preparing fabrics for cutting, using suitable tools.
  • Make complete garment andlearning how to apply all the previous learnet skill on the garment of your choice.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
