soft furnishing for beginners, you will learn basic sewing techniques, decorative techniques. hand stitches to make bespoke lined curtains with diffrent curtains heading : pinch pleats, Pencil pleats, goblets and box pleats. making piped coushion, inserting fastening such as zip, buttons with button hole, applique. you will learn the skills to make your home beautiful or you can start your own business as soft furnishing maker.

Course aim

soft furnishing for beginners, learning basic sewing techniques, measuring and calculating fabrics ,decorative techniques piping, making lined curtains , and cushions for your home or start your own business.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • set up the sewing machien, threading, winding a bobbin, and use all the functions on your sewing machien.
  • you will learn about woven , printed fabrics, identify the lengths, and the width of the fabrics, making diffrent seams, cut and stitche a straight line ,making piping, mitred corner , diffrent hand stitches.
  • preparing fabrics for cutting, pressing fabrics, measuring window, calculate fabric quantity.
  • Making curtins samples with diffrent headings, choosing colours to go with window size, and lighting in your room.
  • Making 1 pair of lined curtains, and at least one coushion with dicorative finishes.folder with all the hand outs and notes.

How will I be taught?

  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.).
  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
