London Walks: London Uncovered

London is the most diverse city in the world. Many distinct places lie within its boundaries. We shall find unusual corners, unexpected history and remarkable buildings which illustrate its development both socially and culturally, coupled with a pleasant morning's walk.

Course aim

By walking through different areas of London, this course will help to give an understanding of the social, historic and cultural development of London.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • You should be able to walk at a reasonable pace for up to two hours.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Develop an appreciation of specific areas of London and London life.
  • Acquire a fresh knowledge on a range of different identified aspects of London.
  • Benefit in terms of health through the walks.
  • Feel part of a group and have made friends
  • Follow up the topics covered in the course either by individual research and study or taking up other related courses.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The class will be encouraged to express their opinions and make contributions throughout the course and to shape its content.

What else do I need to know?

  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • Appropriate shoes and clothing for walking. Students may wish to make notes so writing materials/camera could be brought along.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No preparation is required. Student notes on each walk will be provided and will include suggestions for further reading/activity.
