Italian Renaissance Art

Ref: C2420890

In this course we will look in detail at the work of the great masters of the Renaissance. Why was Leonardo such a pioneer? How can we characterise the varied work of Raphael? We will discuss the career of Michelangelo and why he had such a powerful impact on his contemporaries. In architecture this was the age of Bramante and the rebuilding of St Peter’s. This was also the great age of Venetian art with the brilliance of Titian, Veronese and, in architecture Palladio. There were also notable achievements elsewhere in Italy. Sculpture also developed in dazzling ways. Finally we will consider the idea of Mannerism, the artists who have been associated with it and the significance of their work.
