Saturday Lecture: Fanny Burney - Novelist, Courtier and Exile

Ref: C2420884

At the age of twenty-six, Fanny Burney wrote a best-selling novel that brought her to public attention. Her deeply unhappy period as Assistant Keeper of the Robes to Queen Charlotte made her a crucial eye-witness to George III's madness. Her marriage to a French emigrant brought her personal happiness, but also led to her being trapped in France at a time of war. Before her return to England she survived horrific surgery. Her novels are now little read, but her diary provides us with one of the best sources for the Georgian period.
