Saturday Lecture: King Leopold: Queen Victoria's Favourite Uncle

Ref: C2420880

Leopold of Saxe-Coburg, the King of the Belgians, was Queen Victoria's favourite uncle. He was also Prince Albert's uncle and it was largely through his influence that Victoria and Albert married. His remarkable life can be divided into three stages: the gallant soldier in the war against Napoleon; the husband and then the sorrowing widower of the Prince Regent's daughter; and the first king of the newly-created Belgian state. He was a significant character in both British and European history.
